Our Board

The Board has control over the operation and performance of the management of the Fund, and has the ultimate decision-making with respect to the Fund.

The Board, on the recommendation of the BMI Lending Committee, approves all investments and loan arrangements of the Fund.

The Board is committed to meeting the continuous disclosure obligations of an unlisted disclosing entity under Corporations Act and regulatory guide.

Anna Grant

Anna has been a Director of BMI since 2016 and a Partner at Butler McIntyre & Butler since 2004.

Anna has extensive experience in governance, having served as a Director and Board Member of various Tasmanian and National not for profit organisations. Anna joined the Board of Governance of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation in April 2015 and has served as Chair of the Board and currently is the Vice Chair of the Board. In 2023, Anna was appointed to the Board of Legal Education.

Anna is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has completed Finance for Directors and in 2021, was awarded the Tasmanian SME Scholarship to undertake and complete the Foundations of Directorship and attained the Foundations of Directorship Certificate.

 

Jason Samec

Jason has 25 years’ experience as a legal practitioner in the corporate, business and finance areas, specifically in relation to areas in property development. In addition has previously been involved in financial broking businesses and directorships of many private entities.

As a graduate of the Institute of Company Director’s course, he has been a board member on a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee in the GTO/RTO field.

Jason has been a member of the lending committee in BMI for over 10 years dealing with the operations of the BMI.

Daniel Zeeman

Daniel is past president of the Law Society of Tasmania. Daniel has served on the Compliance Committee for many years and remains a member of that Committee.

Daniel is also a current member of the Andrew Inglis Clark Law Library Management Committee. Daniel has been a director since the incorporation of BMI Ltd.

Con Tsamassiros

Con is a senior commercial partner at Butler McIntyre & Butler Lawyers.

He currently practises in the areas of Property & Commercial Transactions and Estate Planning. Con specialises in providing clients with advice in respect of corporate restructures, trusts and leases.

Con was the founding Chairman of the Estia Greek Festival in Hobart. He held the position of Chairman for five years, and has been involved ever since. He is also the Chair of the Hellenic Cultural Studies Centre and the Secretary of the Executive Committee serving the Board of the Greek Community of Hobart.

Damien Geason

Damien has been a Director and/or a Member of BMI since January of 2001. Damien is currently a Director of BMI and sits on the Lending Committee. He is the current Chairman.

Damien has held many positions, directorships and memberships with numerous corporations including many not-for-profit corporations and organizations designed to assist the financially disadvantaged, most significantly a lengthy stint as Director and Board Member of Common Ground Tasmania which tackled the issue of homelessness in Tasmania.

Damien has been with Butler McIntyre & Butler Lawyers since 1995. He became a Partner in 2001. Damien is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team and has a reputation for his commercial judgement and is highly regarded for his ability to tailor practical solutions to most matters in a timely and cost effective manner.

Damien loves all things sports. Whether it be participating, coaching, or watching his kids he will always have a go. Damien also currently contributes his time to the Grassroots Sports Club which raises money to help financially disadvantaged young people to participate in sports.

Simon Wilding

Simon is a Director of Butler McIntyre Investments Limited, as well as being a current member of the Lending Committee.

Simon has practiced as a legal practitioner for thirty years, specialising in commercial and property matters. During his time as a legal practitioner, he has acted as Tasmanian agent, providing advice to large financial institutions in both Lending and default situations.

Simon is a life member of the Tasmanian University Rugby Union Football Club and in summer enjoys playing lawn bowls.

Alison Wells

Alison was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2006 and has practised in Tasmanian since 2007.

Alison is currently Treasurer and a long-standing member of the Law Council of the Law Society of Tasmania. She is also a former Chair and a long-standing member of the Law Society’s Employment, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Alison became a partner of Butler McIntyre & Butler in 2016. She has previously served on BMI’s lending Committee and is Butler McIntyre & Butler’s current Managing Partner.

Bradley Walsh

Bradley is a partner of Butler McIntyre & Butler Lawyers in the firm’s Property & Commercial Transactions team and regularly provides advice to property developers and financial lending institutions.

 

In addition to completing a Bachelor of Laws, Bradley completed a Bachelor of Business at the University of Tasmania, majoring in Accounting. Bradley was a founding board member of Hamlet Inc., a not-for-profit social enterprise operation in Hobart, and has previously held positions as chair and treasurer of other boards and committees in Tasmania.
